Gazelle browser

This page was last updated at: Feb 25, 2026

Gazelle was a research web browser project by Microsoft Research; the main idea of the project was to apply the principles that guide good Operating System design & building to that of Web Browser development. In particular, having a solid "kernel" of the system, and then having different, independent layers above it; so that if one aspect had an issue it wouldn't crash the whole browser.

Gazelle was a web browser that ran on Desktop devices. It was discontinued in 2009.
