MacWeb browser

This page was last updated at: May 6, 2026

MacWeb was a vintage Desktop web browser that ran on Mac OS Classic. It was developed by TradeWave (formerly EINet). It was developed for about 2 years before being discontinued.

TradeWave/EINet also made a Windows version of this browser called WinWeb.

MacWeb had very small system requirements, especially compared to today's standards!

Operating system: Classic Mac OS 7.0
RAM: less than 700 KB RAM
Hard Drive: 680 KB

MacWeb was a basic browser even by mid 90s standards.

Like most browsers for that time it supported things like:

- HTML forms
- Bookmarks feature, which could import Bookmarks from the Mosaic browser
- View Page Source

It also provided unique features:
- Customisation of the display of HTML tags, similar to how CSS works.
- The "click and hold" gesture to show a contextual menu; this was useful on Macintosh computers because most users didn't have a two button mouse.
